What is a Cataract?

A cataract is a cloudy area that develops in the lens of the eye, which can cause blurry vision, reduced contrast sensitivity, and difficulty seeing at night. Cataracts typically develop slowly over time and are more common in older adults, but can also be caused by injury, certain medications, or medical conditions such as diabetes.

The only effective treatment for cataracts is surgery, which involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens implant. This surgery is generally safe and well-tolerated, and can often be done on an outpatient basis. Recovery time is typically short, and most patients experience improved vision soon after the procedure. With the help of modern techniques and technology, cataract surgery is one of the most common and successful procedures performed today. Phacoemulsification is the most used surgical technique for removal of a cataract.
