Hypermetropia, also known as long-sightedness, is a common refractive error of the eye. It occurs when the eye is not able to focus on objects at close distances. People with hypermetropia may need glasses with plus powered lenses to help them see clearly.
Hypermetropia can be caused by a number of factors including an abnormally shaped eyeball or an incorrect focusing power of the lens inside the eye. It can also be inherited from one’s parents or caused by aging. In some cases, it can even result from an injury or disease. Symptoms include blurred vision and difficulty in focusing on close objects such as books and mobile phones.
